Cry on a rock, then continue on...

My mom has been converting old slides with her computer and she has really stirred up some good, old memories with a few of them. The below photo is my favorite of the group so far. Here's what my mom wrote to me to explain her memory of the day...

"I finally installed the slide converter in the computer and look what picture I found. I feel so bad, this is September 1977. Our first hike 2 months after I had Josh. You were 3 years old and you cried because you didn’t want to hike anymore on our hike out of Chain lakes to the car. I’m sorry, we were so mean to you. Love you, I hope we didn’t damage your psyche too much." -Mom

(Poor me, crying on a rock. I just want to give myself a hug...)

Later, in another email about the photo, my mom gave me the ultimate pep talk for the Leadville 100 Run.

"Remember when you are at Leadville and your crying against a rock, that the little 3 year old continued on, and so can the big 37 year old man! -Mom

Mom, thank you for the kind words and thank you for making me who I am today. Love you.

On to other news... Just spent the last four days in Chicago with Susan and her wonderful family. I had a really good time hanging out with them...well, except for getting sick on the one day that they had a big party! I missed out on seeing a lot of fun people. It seemed to be going around with Susan getting sick the day before I got there and then her mom got sick the day after me. Yikes!

Well, because of the sickness, I got a TON of sleep that day...I was in bed for almost 20 hours! Not sure if that was good or bad...

On the running front. I feel like I have been tapering pretty conservatively and I feel pretty good because of it. No tweaks or tiredness to report.

Running Log
Two weeks ago: 40 miles
Last week: 25 miles
This week: 0 miles so far... getting sick kept me off my feet. I'll probably get in a short run tomorrow to get the blood flowing again.

  3. I do have a history of crying at these things anywhere after mile 60... nothing like getting in touch with my inner child.
